If you are somewhat like me, ‘rhythmically challenged’, my limps usually have a mind of its own (usually stoic more then anything else), considering a dance in front of friends, families and *gasp* in-laws can be daunting.

(And you thought the first march in was tough.)

Well, one of the best ways to learn will be through a dance school. Now, they are many good ones in Singapore, and some of them like Jitterbugs Singapore have studios that are centrally located.

But if you will like to ‘take-it-easy’ and go with the flow, choosing the right song for your first dance is vital. And one of the best genres to start will be waltz. You do not need to be an accomplished waltz dancer like this:

Waltz provides a great rhythm to get grooving. The most fundamental of all is try not to step on each other and learn to enjoy. Then, leave it to the great photographers and videographers to do their magic. Most of all, have fun and the rest will fall in place.

Here are some great waltz songs to consider:

‘Fascination’

‘Moon River’

‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’

‘At Last’

‘Que Sera Sera’ (great for parents dancing with the bride/groom)

Having a live band to perform the selected dance piece has tremendous effect on the atmosphere. It injects an element of ‘live’ into the dance and the duration of the dance can even be tailored. For starters, we recommend a 1 minute for best results.

So go on, do the waltz tilt at the end of the song. While you’re at it, why not get the band to play for you?

Have you ever looked at your iTunes library and stumped by the overwhelming number of songs to choose for your march in? Here’s some tips to help you decide:

(1): Choose your genre.
I will always start with what genre is preferred. For the conventional, classical for the First March In is always a fail-safe option. For the more adventurous, Pop or even Rock. There are no lines except for the ones you draw (and taking in consideration of your family).

(2): Tempo.
Really simple. Fast, medium or slow. Whatever song is chosen and regardless of the tempo, your walk in should be comfortably slow.

(3): Significance.
Is there a song that relates to the both of you? How about a song that reminds the both of you of that particularly sweet proposal or special occasion?

Our take will be for the First March In song to be a song of grandeur and moderately slow. This allows the couple to walk glamorously and the photographers to capture that picturesque moment. For example, a modern interpretation of ‘Bridal March’ by Jonathan Cain is a great song to walk in to. Great build up intro followed by an all-familiar tune. 3 really simple tips but it does go some way to assist you in making the best choice for the song that you will remember for the rest of your lives. Remember, just no ‘Party Rock Anthem’.

A wedding celebration is not complete without wine and for most wedding packages signed up with hotels, each table will come with a complimentary bottle of wine.

That means, if you are inviting 30 tables, there will be 30 bottles of complimentary wine.

However, if you realized that each table has 8 to 10 guests (sometimes 11 guests to a table), a bottle of wine may not be sufficient. In case you are wondering, each bottle will serve 4 to 5 glasses, depending on the amount poured.

Carrefour Singapore

Carrefour (located at both Suntec City Tower 4 and Plaza Singapura) has a great selection of wine, and most are relatively affordable. A good price range will be starting from S$25 per bottle to S$35 per bottle. You can get a slightly more expensive wine for your VIP table (from S$55.00 onwards).

The French supermarket offers free delivery with purchases above S$150.00 (that’s really easy to achieve) and you can choose from an array of red, white, sparkling, moscato and so on.

And for a limited period of 12th December 2011 till 25th December 2011, there is a wine fair right at the Atrium of Plaza Singapura. That means prices further slashed. And even if you are not holding a banquet, there is enough reason for you to stock up for the festive season.

So Merry Christmas to all of you and have a jolly good time selecting wine for your big day.

Back at the Four Seasons Ballroom, Compass Entertainment organized the live music entertainment with Alexandra Hsieh and Raymond Francis on lead vocals for Glenn and Angelin. Stefan planned the evening’s programme and was the emcee for the evening.
